About the Event
Join us at Ramona Flight Training Center for an immersive Terrain Safety & Mountain Flying Course led by Ian Hollingsworth. This course goes beyond theory—covering density altitude, aircraft performance limits, terrain analysis, canyon and ridge procedures, and real-world mountain decision-making. You’ll learn how to manage downdrafts, maintain escape routes to lower terrain, evaluate backcountry airstrips using the L-A-S-S-O-W checklist, and execute short/soft field operations with confidence.
The class includes focus on slow flight, canyon techniques, ridge and pass crossings, and precision landings. Whether you’re departing the mountains, crossing them enroute, or landing in them, this course will sharpen your skills and elevate your safety margins.
Spots are limited—come learn how to think, plan, and fly like a true mountain pilot.
Ian will also share his experience flying back-country airstrips, much of them from his own background flying for missionaries in Chiapas, Mexico, Eastern Ecuador, and the Mosquitia area in Honduras.
